I am from Australia and I have been battling Dermalive granulomas for 4 years now in my lips.
I have had 45 steroid injections, laser and light therapy to draw the lumps out, and 7 lots of surgeries to remove over 15 lumps so far, with many more surgeries to come.
I can see there are many of us going through this around the world and wanted to create a network so we can help each other out in finding a cure for this.
I have had some bad experiences as I am sure many of you have, and have found also some amazing people who have helped me on the way.
In particular I am looking for other Australians who have gone through this and would like to connect with them. Maybe together we can fight this injustice as they are in countries around the world.

ReplyDeleteThanks for posting of my blog. I am so sorry you have gone through this also I am sure it has been a stressful experience for you also. For me it has been four years and now I am undergoing surgery every three months under full anasthetic to remove a few lumps at a time. After moving from one doctor to another I have finally found a surgeon who is fantastic, and is appalled at the way I have been treated in the past
I did get a lawyer last year but they werent much help. I am working on a new approach and gathering more information.

I have been contacted by more people in australia,i feel if we can put all our stories together and fight this we can make a difference and get some compensation for what we have gone through. The more of us fighting this together the easier it will be.
I have alot of contacts with people overseas dealing with this aswell and have spoken to the lawyer in canada running the big case for Nancy De Rosa he said he would help with all the information if I needed it.
I have spoken to doctors in Switzerland who are dealing with and have the most experience with removing Dermalive and a lady in Holland who has won her case and set up a foundation for victims like us.

I have been having granulomas from Dermalive for SIX years now. The doctor who did the Dermalive injections has now treated me with steroid injections. That decreased SOME of the granulomas, but also left deep grooves on the surrounding flesh. I have had to pay for juvederm injections to help with that! My mouth area looks disfigured...

Hi Penelope, I am so happy for you that you have finally found releif and a solution. I don't remember how many vials of dermalive I had injected in my naso-labial lines but a year and half later,a small lump appeared on the left side of my face and several smaller lumps gradulally apearred on the other side of my face since. It's been six years and the lumps have grown big, half the size of a small egg. they purple and red, itchy and painful at times especially painful when cold. On the right side one of the lumps are growing inside which interfers with my chewing food. The lump gets chewed and I'm not realizing it until I feel pain. These lumps have interferred with my dental hygiene.They are so close to the corners of my mouth and some little lumps on my corner lips that when I open my mouth, it stretches causing pain and my cleaning and flossing is impossible. I've have not been outside in the last two years except to see doctors and dental. I have dental work done and is very painful because of the stretching. My dermatologist told me that they are working on a cure, that was almost 4 years ago and I have been staying inside and can't face anyone, except for dentist and doctors. The dermatholist that did my face won't see me. I had gone to see a plastic sergeon and he cannot help me. I'm so lost and need help. I'm feeling very alone. I dont have a life anymore. I started researching my problem and found you and felt hope. I live in Ontario Canada. If there are any others that live in my area, that would be a blessing. There is more hope as a group in getting this matter fixed than a single person. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI asked my Doctor to put Juvedurm in also over the Fat transfer to make them a little softer but he was very concerned about introducing another infection even though he would put me on antibiotics. Please be careful putting other products in unless its in a sterile environment x

ReplyDeleteI have been battling with the lumps for 10 years, they seemed to have quietened down now but still get very itch periods where I know they have started to grow again, I hate the lumps in my face as they look like cysts on my face. I'm so self conscience with the distortion it has effected my confidence terribly. The doctor on the Gold Coast here in Australia injected them but I was made to feel like a leaper each time I went in as the nurse kept reminding me that this was costing the company money each time they injected me. This helped at the start but left pot holes in my face and causes pieces to break off and start re growing. I made enquiries into compensation as I would like to have them surgically removed but was shut down at every avenue.
If you have any more information or need help in perusing a legal case then I'm up for it. How dare they put something on the market and tell us it's safe.

ReplyDeleteI too have suffered with the same problem and am still trying to come to terms with what has happened to my lips.
I have had 3 surgeries with more to come. The product used in my lips is aquamid, the complications have been very similar to the experiences i have read on your blog.
