Hi There
I wanted to give an update as I have been receiving a few emails of late asking many questions.

For the last two years I have had five surgeries under full anaesthetic removing around eight granulomas at a time, some have grown back after surgery but after two or three removals they have settled down and stopped growing. I have one more surgery to go and then I will be having fat transfer to reconstruct my lips.My lips are looking the best they have looked in years thanks to a great surgeon.

The best advice I can give anyone out there looking for help with this terrible product, is you have to get the product out. Your body will continue to react until it comes out. Your body realises its a foreign material so it will do anything it can to try and push out, so removal is the only option.

You need to find yourself the best Plastic AND Reconstructive surgeon you can find, as they are the most highly skilled and trained in the industry. Don't waste time seeing a Dermatologist or Cosmetic surgeon.

Some Important Points:

KENACORT steroid injections DON'T WORK.....they cause the product to react more and cause the good surrounding tissue to die leaving you with potholes in your skin...(i know from personal experience)

Laser Light treatments such as IPL cause the product to react also so stay away from any treatment like this.

I found that anything with high histamine levels such as red wine can make the granulomas itchy and aggravate them further, so try to avoid it

Please do not hesitate to contact me on my email if you have anymore questions,
or if you would like to share your experiences please do I would love to hear what others have found and maybe we can all help each other out...
Kin regards
xx Penelope

  1. Dear Penelope

I've sent you a mail a couple of times today to your gmail account and they've both come back as 'undeliverable'. Is there another way of contacting you?

I have had dermalive in various areas of my face, and while my problem has only been a fraction of what others have been through with granulomas and assorted problems, it is a constant source of distress to me. Of hopelessness too, because no-one has seemed to know what can be done. Finding your blog has been a patch of blue sky because obviously there are doctors out there (and in Australia too! - I live in Sydney)who have experience at removing this most bloody awful of products.

I would be so very grateful if you'd give me the name of your surgeon.

I'm so sorry you've had such a long and awful road with Dermalive. It seems you're almost at the end of the road now, in terms of getting rid of it and having your lips re-structured. I hope that if you've had your final operation it went well and that you're happy with your face.

Thank you for taking the trouble to make this blog. Finding it has given me hope.

    All the best
    P

  2. Hi Penelope:
I live in Canada and had 3 vials of Dermalive injected into numerous areas of my face 5 years ago. I have granulomas in all area that were injected. It is a nightmare. We are in the process of certifying a class action lawsuit against the distributor.I am so afraid of doing anything surgically. As I said, I have alot of very large granulomas on my face.I am very happy for you that this nightmare has ended.
    Best Wishes

  3. Hi Penelope, I am so happy for you that you have finally found releif and a solution. I don't remember how many vials of dermalive I had injected in my naso-labial lines but a year and half later,a small lump appeared on the left side of my face and several smaller lumps gradulally apearred on the other side of my face since. It's been six years and the lumps have grown big, half the size of a small egg. they purple and red, itchy and painful at times especially painful when cold. On the right side one of the lumps are growing inside which interfers with my chewing food. The lump gets chewed and I'm not realizing it until I feel pain. These lumps have interferred with my dental hygiene. They are so close to the corners of my mouth and some little lumps on my corner lips that when I open my mouth, it stretches causing pain and my cleaning and flossing is impossible. I've have not been outside in the last two years except to see doctors and dental. I have dental work done and is very painful because of the stretching. My dermatologist told me that they are working on a cure, that was almost 4 years ago and I have been staying inside and can't face anyone, except for dentist and doctors. The dermatholist that did my face won't see me. I had gone to see a plastic sergeon and he cannot help me. It seems I have no one else to turn to. I'm feeling very alone. I dont have a life anymore. I started researching my problem and found you and felt hope. I live in Ontario Canada. If there are any others that live in my area, that would be a blessing and would love to hear from you. There is more hope as a group in getting this matter fixed than a single person. Thanks :)

  4. I have also experienced the trauma of dermalive. It has played havoc with my life and my family's. I have had several treatments and surgeries to try and correct the disfigurment, with only minor success. I am involved with the Class Action Suit, and advise all others to as well.
